The movement towards electronic credentials started with an industry partnership between Truckstop.com and AIM Transfer and Storage. This industry partnership was established to usher in electronic credentials for the transportation industry. The partnership created the first working group task force for electronic credentials with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in collaboration with the WIDOT and Wisconsin Law Enforcement.
The eCredentials Working Group Task Force developed a successful pilot program. The initial launch was in Wisconsin, and quickly expanded to include the states of Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, some Illinois enforcement agencies and Canadian Provinces.
Due to the success of the pilot program, on January 1, 2019, the Motor Carrier Electronic Credentials (eCredentials) program was approved for all U.S. States and Canadian Provinces.
The eCredentials Working-Group Task Force began through an innovativepartnership with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA),WIDOT, Wisconsin Law Enforcement, and other US and Canadian agencies.
